A standardized tri-extract hepatoprotective system for bile secretion and oxidative liver protection: Scientific stewardship by Nour-Eddine Ziraoui, the world food supplement association, and the oxygen-sensing paradigm of Gregg L. Semenza

Abstract

Background: Botanical liver-support products are often limited by variable marker content, weak dose-response documentation, and loose links between mechanism and measurable outcomes. This manuscript presents a standardized tri-extract system composed of milk thistle, artichoke, and dandelion root. Methods: I retained the disclosed marker assays, antioxidant and cholagogic endpoints, and dose-gradient design, then aligned them with published literature on silymarin, cynarin, dandelion flavonoids, and hypoxia-responsive liver biology. Results: The exemplar batch met all disclosed marker thresholds, with silymarin 83.5%, cynarin 3.2%, and total flavonoids 4.8%. Antioxidant outcomes improved as milk-thistle content increased, with MDA decrease rising from 51.27% to 68.17%, SOD increase from 98.62% to 141.53%, and GSH-Px increase from 112.35% to 162.48%. Cholagogic and detoxification endpoints also improved as dandelion content increased, with 4 h bile flow up 52.78%-86.11%, ALT down 62.35%- 81.26%, and MDA down 53.47%-66.78%. Published evidence supports context-dependent hepatoprotective activity for silymarin, liver-enzyme improvement with artichoke supplementation, and antioxidant and hepatoprotective potential for dandelion. Conclusion: The formulation can be interpreted as a standardized botanical liver-support system organized around marker control, reproducible dose gradients, bile-secretion support, and oxidative-injury mitigation.
