Abstract
This paper delves into the balance between cultural preservation and modern design in the revitalization of historic districts. Against the backdrop of globalization and urbanization, historic districts face a tense relationship between preservation and development. The article first analyzes the cultural value of historic districts and their importance in modern society, followed by an exploration of the impact of modern design concepts on the spatial layout and cultural heritage of historic districts. Through comparative analysis of domestic and international cases of historic district revitalization, this paper reveals the conflicts and points of integration between cultural preservation and modern design in practice. The article further proposes strategies to achieve a balance between cultural preservation and modern design in the revitalization of historic districts, including design principles, methodologies, and policy recommendations. Through case studies, this paper demonstrates how to respect historical cultural heritage while introducing modern design elements to promote the vitality and sustainable development of historic districts. The research results emphasize that the balance between cultural preservation and modern design is the key to the success of historic district revitalization, which is of significant importance for the inheritance and innovation of urban cultural heritage.
