Abstract Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions stand out as a primary catalyst for severe environmental deterioration, exerting detrimental effects on climate patterns and human endeavors. While numerous studies have delved into the factors influencing CO2 emissions, the role of institutional quality remains an underexplored dimension. Our research seeks to enrich the existing body of knowledge by scrutinizing the impact of financial development, institutional quality, foreign direct investment, trade openness, urbanization, and renewable energy consumption on CO2 emissions from 1996 to 2020, employing dynamic autoregressive distributed lag simulations. The empirical findings of our study illuminate a nuanced relationship. Governance indicators, trade dynamics, financial development, and the adoption of renewable energy sources emerge as contributors to a reduction in CO2 emissions. Conversely, urbanization and foreign direct investment are identified as factors exacerbating environmental degradation. These outcomes underscore the imperative for governments to align environmental and economic policies consistently for effective mitigation of environmental degradation and the pursuit of environmental sustainability. Furthermore, our research emphasizes the pivotal role of financial institutions in steering countries towards low carbon emissions and sustainable development. A focus on green growth, coupled with the promotion of clean production processes, is paramount. Governments are urged to establish financial frameworks that facilitate the reduction of CO2 emissions, fostering a synergy between economic prosperity and environmental well-being. In essence, our study advocates for a holistic approach, urging nations to embrace environmentally conscious policies and robust financial strategies to achieve a harmonious balance between economic advancement and ecological integrity.

Abstract Hydrocarbon properties, specifically paraffins, asphaltenes, and resins, greatly affect various field practices such as oil drilling, well operations, field development, and pipeline transportation. These compounds impart viscoelastic properties to oils, which means they exhibit both viscous and elastic behavior. Consequently, the internal structure of these oils changes at a slower rate compared to external conditions, leading to non-equilibrium effects. To understand the viscoplastic elastic properties, we propose a model that considers the relaxation properties of the system. This model reveals that over time, these properties result in reduced filtration processes and decreased well productivity for hydrocarbons in porous media. We develop a representation of porous media movement in pipes to better understand this behavior. During the filtration process, the liquid behaves as if it consists of suspended small particles with long relaxation times and viscoelasticity. These particles deform as they pass through the pipe and porous medium, effectively solidifying and becoming fixed. This understanding of viscoelastic properties can be effectively utilized during drilling operations. In specific scenarios, it may be advisable to drill intervals with abnormal oil when the dynamic water pressure in the well is significantly lower than the formation pressure. This recommendation takes advantage of the unique properties of viscoelastic oils.

Abstract With the accelerating process of urbanization, noise pollution in urban areas has become a major factor affecting biodiversity. In this study, we took Beijing as an example and conducted experiments on common birds in several urban green spaces. By controlling variables and playing different types and intensities of sounds for common birds in urban green belt, we explored the birds' adaptability to urban noise and their responses and sensitivities to different types of noises, and attempted to provide effective scientific support for the protection of urban birds in terms of noise reduction. The results showed that urban birds were generally more alert to dog barking and clear human voices, and less alert to other types of noise like car hooting, cacophonic human voices, and cat calls. The results of this study can provide scientific ideas for bird protection from the perspective of noise control, such as reducing human voices and dog barking which can easily cause birds to fly in alarm, setting up guard rails around bird habitats, strengthening daily patrols, and prohibiting dogs from entering the range of bird habitats, so as to promote the harmonious symbiosis between human life and ecology and nature in the city.

Abstract This paper focuses on the kinetic double-layer model (K2-SUB). It has been established that models clearly resolve the mass transfer and chemical reactions at the surface and inside most aerosol particles. The K2-SUB is applied to the atmospheric heterogeneous chemical model system: the interaction of ozone and oleic acid. It can be used to model volatile and non-volatile substances at the gas-particle interface and inside the particle, time and concentration distribution, as well as surface concentration and gas absorption coefficient. Modelling the reaction of oleic acid particles- a proxy system for kitchen exhaust gas- with the atmospheric oxidant ozone (O3) provides evidence that when the particle size of oleic acid gradually increases, the decay time of oleic acid in ozone is longer. K2-SUB is less sensitive to the surface reaction rate coefficient and the bulk reaction rate coefficient but is sensitive to the bulk diffusion coefficient of ozone and initial surface accommodation coefficient of ozone.
