Abstract

This paper delves into the intricate field of cultural adaptation within literary translation projects, specifically focusing on the translation of Chinese novels into English. Cultural elements pose significant challenges in translation, as they are deeply rooted in the source culture and may not have direct equivalents in the target culture. Through a practical exploration of various Chinese novels translated into English, this study identiffes common cultural obstacles, analyzes the strategies employed by translators to overcome them, and evaluates the effectiveness of these strategies in preserving cultural authenticity while ensuring readability for the English - speaking audience. The findings aim to provide valuable insights for translators, scholars, and educators involved in cross - cultural literary exchanges.
